Medical Care
Wellness Exams
All pets should have a complete physical examination at least once a year. Wellness exams are for healthy pets and provide preventative care and discussions of any questions or concerns with your pet. Behavior is addressed as well as diet and nutrition. As every pet’s lifestyle and needs are different, your individual pet’s vaccination needs, heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention, and intestinal parasite screens will be discussed based on what YOUR pet needs. Wellness care is very important in prevention of illness.
Medical Evaluations
If your pet is injured, itching, painful, lethargic, vomiting or just not doing quite right, it is best to have him/her evaluated by a veterinarian. We will perform a complete history and physical exam. We will discuss the possible diagnoses and advise you on further testing that may be necessary. We will then provide you with a detailed treatment plan. Any questions or concerns will be addressed.
Diagnostic Testing
Tender Care Animal Hospital offers advanced diagnostic capabilities at our clinic. We are able to perform complete blood counts and blood chemistries in house and have results within 20 minutes. We perform urinalyses, fecal testing, heartworm and tick transmitted disease screens as well as cytology. You will receive a copy of all lab testing that is done.
For more specialized tests, we overnight samples to the Idexx laboratory and often have results within 24 hours, depending on the test. Again, a copy of all test results will be provided to you.
Digital radiology is offered and there is no need to come back for results as we will take x-rays and within minutes will go through the digital images with you at the same visit. If more advanced imaging is needed, we can perform contrast studies (ie barium) as well as Ultrasound. Ultrasound allows us to better evaluate the inside of an organ. Ultrasound is used to evaluate the heart, the liver and gall bladder, pancreas, bladder, spleen, and kidneys in more detail.
Dentistry
Dental disease is one of the most common diseases in dogs and cats. Left untreated, bad breath, tooth root abscesses, and loss of teeth can occur. Other organs in the body can be affected as well. It is a huge source of pain in an untreated pet.
We provide complete dental evaluations including full mouth digital dental x-rays and professional dental cleanings with state of the art equipment. We have an ultrasonic dental scaler and polisher. Each individual tooth is evaluated and cleaned above and below the gumline. If extractions are needed, we perform local nerve blocks to numb the area of concern and provide pain medication to go home as well. After the teeth are cleaned and polished, we will discuss with you the best option for your pet regarding at home dental care. This may be teeth brushing, dental sealants, tartar shield chews, T/D dental diet or water additives. Samples are provided after the dental cleaning so you can try some of the different options available.
Housecalls
If you are unable to physically bring your pet to the clinic, we are willing to come and get your pet or perform an examination at your house. Sometimes pets are more comfortable in their own environment and we understand that. We want you and your pet to be as comfortable as possible. Please understand there are some services that cannot be done at your home. If you would like to schedule a housecall, please call us to make an appointment.
